Why Do We Cheat
Cheating is more or less a subjective thing, there are different instances in which people cheat, and only a few instances have the same reason. Most times, we make excuses about why we cheat without actually bothering to find out the real underlying problem.
Cheating is somewhat addictive, like a bad joke, it captures your attention and ends up not being funny. Only a few people ever really ask themselves, “why do we cheat?” And only a select few can genuinely answer that question.
Why Do People Cheat?
We hear a lot of excuses about why people cheat, but we never bother to investigate the underlying reason.
1. The past
People claim that what’s past is past, but they tend to dwell in the past. It is quite difficult to let go of certain past experiences like abuse, assault, death, broken marriages. etc. People that go through this tend to try to get over the heartbreak of their past situations by rushing into a relationship they cannot handle. When they’re already skin deep in their relationship, they begin to have flashbacks based on experiences that are similar to what has happened in the past, they tend to seek affection from the people closest to them at that time, sometimes, that ends up being a friend, a stranger or just about anyone, even if it isn’t the person they are in a relationship with.
2. Because they’ve cheated before and they enjoyed it.
There’s no such thing as a natural born cheater, but some people have a habit of becoming addicted to bad things, cheating is like smoking, it’s a bad habit, the more you try it, the more you seem to enjoy it, the more you’ll want to do it.
Some people find love and are so scared to grasp it that they cheat instead, convincing themselves that if their partner loves them back they’ll forgive them no matter what they do.
4. Lack of self control
When faced with temptations, it takes strong resolve to stand firm.
5. We’ve settled for being friends with the person we’re in love with
We don’t even realize that we are scared of commitments till we discover that we’ve ruined every relationship we’ve ever been in, or till we notice that we have only one real person in our lives and the rest are being kept at arms length. We’ve backed ourselves into a corner we can’t leave, so we take it out on everyone else by cheating and letting them feel a smidgeon of our pain.
6. Because deep down, you’re just not ready
Rushing into a relationship can lead to cheating, if you’re not ready for something, don’t force yourself to do it, especially if it’s a relationship.
